Richmond, BC Contaminants: 11,500 m3 of PHC (F1-F4) impacted soil and groundwater
This project has been completed. Site contamination consists of
TPHs and BTEX that exceed criteria both in the soil and groundwater.
Remediation approach consists of delivering HMM bioproducts to the
contaminated zones followed by air sparging/bioventing to supply
aerobic bacteria with oxygen. Directional drilling was utilized to
install horizontal injection wells at depths of up to 4.5 metres. "Big
O" piping was used to construct the extraction system.
Project Value: $ 750,000
Ancaster, On Contaminants: BTEX, PHCs (F1-F4) in soil and groundwater
Soil and groundwater was contaminated to a depth of 8 m with BTEX
and TPH (g/d) with concentrations ranging up to 17,000 mg/kg and free
product fuel present. The volume soil that was treated was 7,500 m3.
The treatment criteria for the project were Table A of 1997 MOE
Guidelines. The remediation design consisted of horizontal and vertical
bioproduct and oxygen injection wells along with header piping
connected to blowers that were operated on a continuous basis. The
project was completed by HMM on a design/construct/operate turnkey
contract basis. Successful treatment was achieved in conjunction with
excavating a 750 m3 area which was successfully treated on site using
exsitu bioremediation technology.
